No Win, No FeeFollowing the UK Supreme Court’s 1 August 2025 judgment and the FCA’s confirmed redress scheme, here is an accurate, plain-English summary of where car finance claims stand today. You can complain to your lender directly for free and do not need to use a claims management company.
On 1 August 2025 the Supreme Court ruled that car dealers were generally notacting as fiduciaries, narrowing the basis for some claims. It upheld one claim under the Consumer Credit Act’s “unfair relationship” test (undisclosed, high commission). Blanket automatic payouts are not guaranteed.
In March 2026 the FCA confirmed an industry-wide, free redress scheme (PS26/3) covering motor finance agreements taken out between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 where undisclosed commission was involved. It is currently subject to a legal challenge that the FCA has said will delay payouts.
The FCA estimates an average of around £830 per agreement for those who qualify, but amounts vary widely and some people receive nothing. Around 12.1 million agreements (about 37%) are estimated to be eligible.

Everything you need to know about PCP car finance claims.
A PCP car finance claim is a complaint that your car finance was mis-sold — typically because the dealer or broker received a commission from the lender that was not disclosed to you, which could have increased what you paid. If you were affected you may be able to claim compensation, although this is not guaranteed.
The FCA estimates an average of around £830 per agreement for those who qualify, but amounts vary widely depending on your agreement and the commission involved — some people receive more, some less, and some receive nothing. The scheme is estimated to pay out around £7.5 billion across the industry. Compensation is not guaranteed.
On 1 August 2025 the Supreme Court ruled that car dealers were generally not acting as fiduciaries, which narrowed the basis for some claims, but it upheld one claim under the Consumer Credit Act’s "unfair relationship" test. Compensation now flows mainly through the FCA’s redress scheme rather than automatic payouts.
Under the FCA redress scheme, once you accept an offer the lender must normally pay within one month. However, the scheme is currently subject to a legal challenge that the FCA has said will delay payouts, so overall timescales are uncertain. We’ll keep you updated throughout.
It means you won’t pay a fee if your claim is unsuccessful. If it succeeds, our fee is banded by the amount recovered, up to a maximum of 36% including VAT, in line with FCA rules. There are no upfront costs or hidden fees. You can also complain to your lender yourself for free without using a claims company.
You may be eligible if you took out PCP or HP car finance between 6 April 2007 and 1 November 2024 and were not told about commission paid to the dealer or broker (including discretionary commission or other undisclosed arrangements). You can still claim even if you have already paid off the finance. Eligibility is decided case by case.
You just need your basic personal details — name, address, date of birth, and contact information. You don’t need your original finance documents. Your agreements can be traced using your details through credit reference agencies.
Yes. Whether your finance is still active or was paid off years ago, you can still complain. Many eligible agreements ended several years ago.
After you submit, your details are reviewed and eligible finance agreements identified. A formal complaint is then made to the lender on your behalf, and under the FCA scheme the lender assesses eligibility and any redress. If an offer is made and you accept it, payment normally follows within one month (subject to the current scheme delays).
